Where did the name “Ping Pop” come from:
The game of ping pong is pretty big at our work so we thought why not create an art show out of it. So we came up with a Ping Pong Paddle art show called Ping Pop ATL.

Can you explain the event?
360 ping-pong paddles were sent out to the creative community, including artists, celebrities and several ad agencies in town. Lil’ Jon, Andre 3000, Jermaine Dupri and Chipper Jones were among the local celebrities asked to participate. Other contributors called upon included: Natas Kapas, Bloo Empire, Totem2 and animators, creators and voice talents at CN’s Adult Swim. Everyone was told to design their own paddle for the show. They could do whatever they wanted. We then rented a space in town to display all of the artwork, threw a huge party and held a silent auction for the paddles. All the proceeds went to Atlanta’s AFLAC Children’s Cancer Center. In the end, we raised over $5,000.

Would you do it again?
Yes. Maybe next time we’ll have more than a couple of weeks to plan, prepare and throw the event.

Who would you like to thank for helping with the project?
Chris Bakay, Mark Buchanan, Dirty Digits, Totem2 and The Burn Unit.

Do you think “Ping Pop” helped ATL? If so, how:
We hope the event brought artists together and inspired others to start their projects. Atlanta responded very well to the event. So yes, we think ATL definitely benefited from the whole project.PING POP ATL Contact info:

What do you think needs to happen for ATL to be respected on a worldwide creative level? 1.
Stop making excuses and do great work. 2. Stop trying to fool people with fake, joypop ads and do exceptional work for real clients that make both of us famous. 3. Stop saying “our client’s are stupid”. They are not. 4. Stop behaving like a regional market and think globally. 5. Training – we aren’t doing enough to train the talent we have. That includes every discipline within the agency. 6. Drink more beer together.

What do you think needs to happen for ATL to be respected on a worldwide creative level?
Atlanta has a lot of talent, but it is divided into a lot of smaller “groups” with 0 colabration which makes the overall creative scene here suffer. There are several groups that people can get involved with (from free to paid), but most refuse to interact with them if there is not an instant “in it for me” factor. I often hear people complaining about how Atlanta’s creative scene is lacking, but I rarely see anyone trying to do anything to help it. GET INVOLVED PEOPLE.. THIS IS OUR INDUSTRY… THIS IS OUR CITY… LETS MAKE IT SOMETHING!
