Art Director: Tony Simmons

Name:
Tony Simmons

Job Title:
Sr. Art Director

Where can people see your work?
Anywhere. I travel. Hopefully I’ll have a website soon.

Work Experience:
I graduated fro The Creative Circus way back in 1998 and since have worked many agencies. Most notable Mckinney+Silver, Mullen and BBDO Atlanta where I am currently.

Clients you’ve helped:
Audi, Wachovia, Disaronno, XO Communications, TJ Maxx, Coca-Cola, Cingular / AT&T and many more.

What do you think needs to happen for ATL to be respected on a worldwide creative level?
I believe people need to stop bitching about everything that’s wrong with this city creatively and start to appreciate what’s great. I think this website is a good start, at least to begin a dialogue. Those of us that care about this community being respected need to band together and run the show, and that doesn’t happen by complaining.

Creative Director: Stefán Kjartansson

Name: Stefán Kjartansson

Job Title:
Creative Director, Armchair Media

Where can people see your work?
http://armchairmedia.com/work

Work Experience:
From Reykjavík to Atlanta, I’ve been an illustrator, a web designer, a font designer and a graphic designer.

Clients you’ve helped:
Some of the bigger ones are Coca Cola, CNN, ING, Turner.

What do you think needs to happen for ATL to be respected on a worldwide creative level?
For any place to gain respect it needs to nurture existing talent as well as attract new. An environment of excitement, passion and sense of culture will fuel excellence. Atlanta needs its Medicis and Guggenheims.

Here are a few things to ponder:

1) Originality: We need to rise above the stock photo mindset and make clients comfortable with taking risks with us. It’s the only way for brands to survive today.

2) Craftsmanship: Nothing comes from nothing. Work hard. Rework you work, then rework some more.

3) Compete globally. We’re lucky to live in these times. If Atlanta clients fail to inspire, look to the rest of the world for like-minded clients.

Designer: Larry Luk

Name:
Larry Luk

Job Title:
Designer, Epidemik Coalition

Where can people see your work?

Work Experience:
I am a recent graduate from Portfolio Center and I’ve been busting my ass while in school trying to do good work. Over the past two years, I’ve interned with Unboundary and Armchair Media, and I’ve been laying the groundwork to start my own company, Epidemik Coalition, with my partner in crime, Georgios Saliaris. We got our start doing hand-screened tees and posters. With some good press and encouragement from our mentors, we decided to bite the bullet and start our own design shop. We’ve been operating as a branding and identity company for about a month, and most recently we have been working on Project Fourt with Wade Thompson and Megan Huntz at Coca-Cola HQ. We haven’t forgotten about the tees that everyone loves and now we use them to help gain awareness for our design work.
Stop by our new studio sometime! We’ll show you around…

Clients you’ve helped:
Coca-Cola, Three Thieves Wine, Rehab, Cartel, ATL Modern, Marie Marie Salon, Menes Productions, Standard Boutique, Will Scruggs Jazz Fellowship, C.C. Booker III, Garrett Moore, Wes Funderburk, Octane Coffee, Fly $ociety, and Demun Jones.

What do you think needs to happen for ATL to be respected on a worldwide creative level?
Design-minded people need to embrace what Atlanta has to offer and stick around. Everyone always treats Atlanta like a step on the path to success instead of looking around and taking advantage of all the opportunities Atlanta has to offer.
